How to Create Variety at Your Brand Photoshoot

Brand photos and videos are an investment in your business, so you want to get the most out of them right?

I speak about this all the time, but having a strategy before your shoot will help create more variety in your visuals. Really dig into your goals for the imagery, like how you plan to use them in your marketing, and how it will elevate your content strategy.

The biggest part of the planning process is your moodboard and shot list. Use these tools to create and curate images that tell the story of your brand and connect with ideal client or customer. Determine how many images you need for your next launch, the next 30 days of social media posts, your e-mail marketing schedule, blogging schedule, etc.

You want to create variety in your visuals, to keep your audience engaged. If they continue seeing the same ‘ol headshots, with the same background and poses, they will keep scrolling. Yes, you want to have cohesive branding, but there’s a difference between cohesive and complacent.

While planning your next brand shoot, keep these tips in mind:

Choose a location with different backgrounds

Surprise the viewer with something new! Whether it’s different colors, textures or scenes, choose a location that has a variety of backgrounds. Some of my go-tos are homes, studios, and co-working spaces.

Switch up your outfits and props

The more, the merrier. Depending on how much time you have to shoot, aim to bring at least 3 outfits per hour: an outfit you’d wear to a conference, to meet with clients and while working from home. Bring various props like your business tools, desk accessories and any physical marketing materials.

Try different poses and angles

Movement is key! The key is to move around so your photographer can get different angles, facial expressions and your overall brand personality. Practice your poses ahead of the shoot for max confidence and preparation!

Also, think about how some of your imagery can work across your marketing platforms and content types.
