How to Use Photoshoot Behind the Scenes in Your Content

With video becoming more popular in marketing, I’ve been more intentional about capturing behind the scenes videos at my client shoots. It has increased engagement on my social posts and driven more conversions in my business!

But sharing behind the scenes content doesn’t only work for photographers and videographers. As the client, you can capture behind the scenes videos, timelapse and photos to connect with and inspire your audience.

What has worked well for me and others I follow on social media is a short video of you posing during the shoot, and adding a text overlay. Some ideas on what to talk about:

  • How you got started in business and what you’ve learned

  • A challenge you’ve overcome

  • What you’re currently working on or excited about

  • An inspirational message to your ideal client that addresses their pain points

Then use your brand photos as reels covers and voila!

Here’s a example from my client Kayla, who is a lifestyle Content creator:

How to Capture BTS at Your Brand Shoot

I like to capture BTS myself and share it with clients, but you can do this too! Invest in a tripod that includes a phone clamp. This will come in handy, even when you’re creating content at home or out and about without a photographer.

At your shoot, set your phone on the tripod, and position the tripod behind your photographer, with the camera focused on you. I usually like to set it up about 10 feet or more away, so it won’t get in the way and captures more of the scene.

You can set your phone to regular video or Timelapse. Or capture regular video and speed it up later in a video editing app like inShot.

How to Create Videos with Text Overlay

You can easily create videos with text overlay natively in the IG app when you create your reel.

Or you can use Canva by creating a design with the Reels dimensions. Then import the video and add the text element. Copy and paste your text and format it so it is readable to the viewer. You may need to make the font bold, larger or a different color for better display. Or you can add a square shape element overlay and make it transparent to make the video appear darker and the text more prominent.

You can also create a “quote tweet” by adding your thoughts in the form of a tweet and layering it on top of the video.

How will you incorporate behind the scenes content in your marketing?
