How to Pose on a Backdrop for Your Brand Photos

The #1 concern my clients have is, how do you I pose? What do I do with my hands?

I had this concern when I first started by photography business-not only being in front of the camera, but knowing how to pose my clients!

So, I wanted to share some of my favorites from clients who killed it with their poses, featuring a backdrop. Sometimes a clean background like a backdrop can be a little intimidating, because the main focus is you! So you have to get creative with your poses. Knowing how to pose on a backdrop can make posing in other settings that much easier!

Shooting on a backdrop for your brand photos works well if you’re planning to create educational or promotional material. You can add text and graphics or remove the background to use in a banner or to create a flyer or ad. They’re also great for podcast covers, guides, masterclasses and courses and profile photos.

Here are some poses to try at your next shoot:

Tips for posing on a backdrop:

Incorporate props without being cheesy. Your business tools like laptop, camera, phone and even your favorite coffee or tea mug or water bottle can make it feel authentic to your brand. Or use confetti or a champagne glass if you’re celebrating something! Also plants can really warm up the scene and add a natural element to your branding.

Use big expressions with both your facial expressions and your body movements. Don’t be afraid to move your arms and legs to get the perfect shot!

Try poses both sitting and standing to create different dimensions. Sit on a stool, chair or the floor, depending on what you’re wearing.

Pose with blank space to the left, right or above you, and point in that direction.
