Clearwater Brand Photoshoot: Keisha

Are your brand photos coming out stiff and overly posed?

Some of my new clients have shared with me how they’ve had beautiful images taken of them for their brand, but they just didn’t feel like them. They looked too stiff and posed, and uncomfortable.

The key to fixing this is showing off your personality! If you’re super expressive, don’t let your nervousness in front of the camera show. Think about the amazing women you’re supporting with your product or service, and how your business is going to solve their problem. When we take our eyes off ourselves and focus on others, some of those on-camera jitters go away.

How to allow your personality to shine through in your brand images:

Practice your poses. I can usually spot a newbie by how they pose! But you don’t have to look like a newbie, even if you are. Practice in the mirror, when you’re out and about with your significant other or family. It will make all the difference! Your photographer will pose you, but if you don’t feel comfy, it will look like it. Check out this post on how to pose on a backdrop. My new posing guide is coming so soon! Don’t be afraid to try new poses.

Relax and take deep breaths before you start shooting. Again, don’t focus on how awkward or nervous you feel. Focus on those you are called to help. Trust your photographer to help pose you. When you feel relaxed, you’lll look relaxed. Don’t be afraid to try more relaxed poses, facial expressions or even comfy clothes, like what you’d wear while working from home. If you need to, tell yourself to relax as you go.

Facial expressions. My favorite way to capture my clients’ personalities is to give them prompts to show different facial expressions. Some of them are, excitement, frustration, boldness and humor. Focus on big, open mouth smiles-say ha ha if it helps and work those eyebrows!

Get photos of you in action. I love capturing my clients in their element. Doing the work they love to do, meeting with clients, taking calls or even practicing self-care. Incorporate props like your business tools to real tell that story.

That’s exactly what we did for Keisha’s recent brand session! I loved bringing out her personality, and focusing on simple but powerful poses that really show who she is, and how she serves her clients. Check out her website if you’re looking for a mortgage lending services!
